I called to ask a question just before 4pm and I get an automated message saying I've reached them during after hours and they close at 4:30pm. When you visit the location the lines are long and they appear to be understaffed.

I called the tax office with a simple request--that the original yearly tax notice be mailed to my home instead of to the mortgage company because we had recently closed our escrow account. The automated service which answered told me I was number 23 in the queue. Forty minutes later, my call was answered by an arrogant, irksome man--I'm mad at myself for not asking his name--who had NO interest in providing any sort of customer service. He took no time to try to understand what I was asking, but instead brusquely told me, "It will 'fall off' after the first of the year." I asked what on earth that meant, and he said the mortgage company would let them know the mortgage was paid off. I explained that the mortgage was NOT paid off, the escrow account was closed and I wanted the tax notice sent to me. He had the audacity to repeat the "fall off" line I'd just said made no sense. When it became clear I would get NO HELP from him, I ended the call.

Follow up: After I finally calmed down (several days later), I went in person to the tax office, took a number, waited my turn, and spoke to a young woman at the counter who took care of my issue with a smile and had me on my way in less than one minute. Her excellent service almost makes up for the wretched service I received the week before from her colleague.

Michelle French, the buck stops with you. 1) No Denton County taxpayer should have to wait forty minutes holding the line for customer service. That is unacceptable. 2) Train your staff in handling taxpayers' calls. Those who cannot demonstrate even basic civility or customer service skills should be put to work in a capacity that doesn't involve interaction with the public.

Apparently, I have to come into the office (between 8am and 4:30?!) fill out a duplicate receipt application, and THEN they will mail me a copy of my receipt.

Very long lines with very few people at the customer service kiosks. I counted 14 desks and only 2 employees.

I bought my registration last week, and I need the receipt to show my employer so I can claim PTO. Well, the original copy was damaged, because I'm human and I have kiddos that spill their drinks.

Edit: I got a call from Michelle French and her staff. My problem wasn't solved - they cited state law for the process of getting a receipt, and they can't change it. Oh well. I guess it was nice to get a phone call from my elected rep.

I called the county office to request a copy of the receipt - not the actual registration, just the Credit card receipt - mailed to me.

Disastrous office. Phone lines put you in a loop.
