I had sustained a fall & had surgery for a complex knee fracture where in they removed 10 percent of my knee cap and drilled holes to place anchors and sutures internally in October. Dr Kennedy performed surgery on October 27th. I walked out of the office, released to full weight bearing, no brace, no crutches, no physical therapy, 56 days after major knee surgery. I had thought this was wonderful considering every single thing I read and every other person who had less major knee surgeries stated it would be a long recovery process.
Monya & the doctors in the practice left me, a patient of the practice, walking on a fractured knee for FIVE DAYS! I had already lost 10 percent of my knee cap in the original surgery because it was shattered.....The loss of more could leave me, a mother in her 30's, requiring a knee REPLACEMENT. At the very least.....Ortho Texas needs to step in & get a new leader in there to set some standards for the staff & as a practice, they need to carry some accountability for the rotating door of physicians coming through there these past several years.
After my knee gave way on April 2nd, I had xrays at an urgent care facility which showed another piece of my bone had fractured off. The next day I called Ortho Texas-Denton and was informed that my surgeons last day was that Friday before. The other doctors in the office refused to see me. Monya called with the excuse that they had no appointments available and that my injury needed addressed immediately (This is MONDAY) On Wednesday, when I had yet to find an Ortho that would see me because I had my surgery through another practice I asked Monya if they could see me the next week in the event that I am unable to get in to see anyone. She was very uncaring, rude, and unprofessional informing me that no matter what they would not treat me (because a different doctor did my surgery.....The doctor that just left the practice a few days earlier. When I spoke with Amy to get my medical records to try to get in to see anyone....someone (mind you....I had been WALKING ON A BROKEN KNEE this entire time) Amy informed me that, "by law we have 15 days to get the records to you. I am doing 3 people's jobs right now and I would love to just drop everything and help you that just isn't an option..." I said to her, I was told on Monday this was urgent....it is now Wednesday....any decent doctor will want to have my surgical and post op records for treatment, but now you're stating it could be two weeks before you provide those??? But it is URGENT & needs to be seen IMMEDIATELY??? What they failed to realize is I've been an MA for 18 years and assisted an ortho surgeon.... I knew I was getting the run around (just typically they are a lot more kind when they are doing so)
Dr. Ward performed surgery on my knee in 2015. He was very knowledgeable and thorough. He was friendly and helped me feel at ease. I saw him about a shoulder injury as well and he gave me a couple of options to try prior to resorting to surgery. My shoulder is doing better and haven't needed surgery yet! I would easily recommend Dr. Ward. I will, however, have to agree with some other comments. The office staff was not friendly or compassionate! That is why 4 stars instead of 5.
I was so frustrated, scared, and in so much pain! I cried, I begged them to take a look at it and help me....They were unapologetic and very unkind. It is frightening that Monya is a leader at the facility....With Monya's judgement as the measure it is no wonder I was treated so poorly by Amy.
Great service
Perhaps they need to better train their staff as to not misinform customers. Just disappointed really. Had what seemed to be a great experience at the appointment. I was asked if i would like an injection to help my knee heal quicker and before having the procedure done, I inquired about costs in general (not to me or the insurance) because I could not afford hundreds of dollars for it, and was told that $15 would be the charge. I agreed and had the injection. Received a bill later for much, much more that what i was told and got no help when i called multiple times for an answer. Would not return, would not refer.
I was SHOCKED at the negative mannerisms and complete disregard for patient care of the office staff, in particular, Amy in medical records & Monya (who introduced her title as Administrator).
Both my daughter and I have seen doctors there. The latest is Dr. Flowers who removed a ganglion cyst from my wrist. He answered my many questions and even in the course of the surgery worked with me on anesthesia concerns. I know the office staff is aways busy, but I have not encountered rude or inconsiderate people - in any of our visits over the last almost two years (two broken arms and one wrist issue). With a suspected broken arm for daughter today, we will be making a appointment first thing this morning.
